Spotlight Review: Nintendo's DS Light
Ah, one of Nintendo's best systems on the market today. Slimer, sleeker and sexier than any other Nintendo Portable System to date, and blows the Original DS out of the water. Although it came out awhile back I figured it deserved to be reviewed first since it's one of my favorite buys of all time.
This system (pictured below) is more than just a portable nintendo game player, it's a complete jewel in the portable realm, but unlike the psp, it has many titles. And this is of course more important than the initial system.
And with games like Super Mario 64 DS, Cooking Mama (no im not wierd), Mario Kart DS, and more.. The choices are endless and obviously if your in the market for a system that offers both style, a large choice of games, and a very bright screen, then the DS Lite is your system.
Now lets highlight the Brighter screen, with 4 selections you can make it about the same as the original's brightness, or so bright it nearly burns your eye sockets out. (Of course im being serious, it burns)
In conclusion lets go over the 5 major players that we think should be highlighted..
Sound Quality: The Quality in my opinion has been improved since the last version of the bulky ds, it's not the best in the world, but it's not bad either, although they could improve it a bit.
Screen: The screens has been slightly altered from last time as far as size. They are a tad bit smaller than the original DS, however the brighter screen settings more than make up for that. And lets talk about those brighter screen settings, you have 4 choices, from dim (as in the old ds basically) to very bright, that actually really was good when it's dark outside or the powers out. Something you couldn't do with the old ds unless you had great vision was play in the complete dark, sure the screen was kind of illuminated but not enough to make it an enjoyable experience for the gamer.
Ports: The ports on the system include one GBA slot, with a filler cartridge (which helps keep the system looking sleek when not being used to play a GBA game, and more so helps avoiding harmful dust to infiltrate your system. Secondly, there's of course a DS slot, just as before. Unlike the GameBoy SP, the DS Lite does have a headphone jack, and a Wifi/Lan Port as well.
Stylus: The stylus was soo much improved this time around. You would be suprised how much the stylus affects gameplay, and the new fatter, but still easy to hold stylus does just like, affects gameplay in a very good way, as apposed to the original which basically looked like and felt like a toothpick.
Game Choices: The choices of games for this system like any other Nintendo system are very good. Including great titles like Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing, you can't go wrong. And with the Nintendo ds's wifi online capabilities, you can (surf the web if you have the DS Browser) and play others on Nintendos Wifi Section, to increase the fun and the competition.
Finnaly it should be noted that the actual GBA cartridge does stick out more, but in our opinion, it's a sacrifice worth it to play on such a mirconized system. It's buttons are easy to use, even with big hands, and unlike the original, you won't hit the Power Button on accident, since Nintendo decided to move it to the size in a slider motion simular to the GBA Micro.
With this being said the DS Lite is an investment in a world of endless posibilites, including great game titles, a great slim design, sexy color choices such as Black, Red, and some (limited edition) skins for upcoming games like Poke'mom Diamond and Pearl set to release this Spring, you just can't find a better more amazing system, compared to the PSP, which is sexy, but lacks game titles and a touch screen, the DS blows it's competitions out of the water. If your wondering if you should buy it or not, do it. BUY it, you will not regret your decision and the system will bring you a ton of fun for many years to come.
All in all we give the Nintendo DS lite a (4 out of 5.)
**(Due to Blogger's Picture Uploads being down we cannot publish any photos of the system, however you can always go to http://www.nintendo.com to learn more and see some amazing screenies. Again we apologize for the inconveinance)**
-- AFTER REVIEW PRICING --
At one point, it was nearly impossible to find a DS Lite anywhere, both online and in the stores offline, during the Christmas Rush. This has since been restocked, but if you can't find one, DO NOT Order one from an Import Site, while you may get something from Asia, we have done this before and alot of times you will be dissapointed in the service, and the price of 200-250 dollars is not worth the color differernce or the thumb strap.
Your better off waiting, and we reccomend you try a site such as (http://www.amazon.com) but look for bargins, some people are selling them for nearly 300 dollars, and trust me, the desperation of wanting the system is not worth paying twice what it costs. We will update a list of the best places to buy the DS Lite soon!
